We are seeking to recruit a Senior Research Fellow in Complex Systems who will join the research group based at the CABDyN Complexity Centre at the University of Oxford. The advertised post is funded through one of the CABDyN Complexity Centre’s new projects: “Forecasting Financial Crises: Measurements, Models and Predictions” is funded under the European Commission’s Framework 7, Future of Emerging Technologies Open Scheme. The project aims to address the very important challenge of improving our ability to detect early warning signals for potential instabilities and crises in financial markets, by developing novel network-based measures and software tools that can be applied to large-scale financial datasets on a real-time basis.
Candidates will be expected to have a PhD in a cognate discipline e.g. mathematical biology, computer science, economics, engineering, mathematics, physics, or quantitative sociology (social network analysis) from a major research university, with postdoctoral training in complex systems and networks, and with a track record of serious interdisciplinary collaboration and engagement. Candidates will be expected to show evidence of substantial practical experience of managing and working with large-scale empirical data sets for research purposes, some familiarity more specifically with financial data sets, and an established interest in finance research literature. An appropriate track record of high-quality peer-reviewed publications on complex systems and networks, and good programming skills will be essential. The Senior Research Fellow will manage and analyse different large-scale financial datasets used in this project, will oversee the day-to-day management, will present research results at international workshops and conferences, and will co-author articles for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals.
