Research Associate Position in School of Biomedicine at The University of Manchester, UK

Research Associate position in Endocrinology and Diabetes for metabolomic study of hormone pathways altered in obesity and metabolic syndrome at School of Biomedicine, UK
Study Subject(s): Metabolomic study of hormone pathways altered in obesity and metabolic syndrome
Course Level: PhD holders
Scholarship Provider: The University of Manchester
Scholarship can be taken at: UK
Eligibility:
Candidates should have a PhD in endocrinology, molecular biology, physiology or a related discipline and it would be beneficial to have a knowledge of hypothalamic regulatory systems involved in energy homeostasis or physiological control of the stress axis.
A research background in peptide/steroid isolation and characterization (preferably mass spectrometry) is essential, as is technical expertise in molecular biology and cell culture. A strong publication record in a related area and good communication skills are desirable.
This project will use a metabolomic approach to study hormone pathways altered in obesity and metabolic syndrome. Using rodent models of obesity we aim to investigate the interaction between obesity and the stress axis. In particular we aim to assess how obesity affects diurnal changes in the stress axis and how this impacts on glucocorticoid metabolism in different tissues. The project will develop biomarkers of abnormalities in the stress axis and examine how abnormalities change at different times of day.
How to Apply: By Post
Scholarship Application Deadline: 10 June 2011
