The PhD in Forest Sciences is a research-based program focused on the development of researchers in the field of forest sciences, including, but not limited to the following subject areas: biodiversity in forest environments; conservation biology; evolutionary ecology; forest ecology and ecological processes; forest entomology and pathology; forest fire management and ecology; forest management, economics and operations; forest recreation; forest soils and soil conservation; forest genetics and tree improvement; population and community ecology; remote sensing and photogrammetry; silviculture; sustainable forest management; tree morphology and physiology; watershed ecology, forest hydrology and water quality; wildlife/animal habitat management and conservation; and wood science.

Eligibility: Must be a full-time student in a Geology graduate program Student must demonstrate a keen interest in economic geology and mineral fieldwork Financial need will also be considered

Studies leading to the degree of Master of Science in Geology normally emphasize the fields of Petrochemistry and Tectonophysics. Petrochemistry is deemed to include: Field and laboratory studies of ore deposits, igneous, metamorphic and lithified sedimentary rocks. Tectonophysics is deemed to include: Field and laboratory studies of structural geology, rock magnetism and basin analysis. The department has specializations in the broad areas of petrochemistry and tectonophysics which have included projects in: petrology, mineralogy, geochemistry, structural geology, strain analysis, mapping, tectonics, sedimentation, economic geology, paleomagnetism and experimental rock deformation and strength testing. At least 30% of our MSc students proceed to PhD studies and most have published their research in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
