Bangor University funded Doctoral Position in Identification and evaluation of mutations in DNA repair genes as prognostic and/or predictive markers for cancer therapy, UK
Study Subject(s): Identification and evaluation of mutations in DNA repair genes as prognostic and/or predictive markers for cancer therapy
Course Level: PhD
Scholarship Provider: Bangor University, UK
Scholarship can be taken at: UK
Applicants should have a first, upper second-class of MSc degree in biology or a related life-science subject.
DNA Repair mechanisms are essential for the maintenance of genome stability. Defective DNA repair mechanisms are not only a major driver for carcinogenesis, but can render cancer cells more sensitive to treatment with DNA damaging cancer-therapeutic agents. The aim of this project is to study the role of specific DNA repair mechanisms in the maintenance of genome stability with an aim to improve our understanding of carcinogenesis and the role that DNA repair mechanisms play in providing resistance against clinically important DNA damaging cancer drugs. The successful applicant will join the North West Cancer Research Fund Institute at the School of Biological Sciences, Bangor University, and the recently established Cardiff/Bangor Cancer Genetics Biomedical Research Unit.
