The Faculty of Philosophy seeks to appoint two PhD candidates for research in any of the four principal research areas of the faculty: History of Philosophy, Theoretical Philosophy, Ethics and Practical Philosophy, Netherlands

You must have an MA/Msc degree in archaeology or another relevant discipline, and the candidate ideally combines well developed interests in and experience with: the use of Geographic Information Systems in archaeology, and in particular good knowledge of ArcGIS software, familiarity with material culture, and in particular ‘small finds’ and how they are documented, the stratigraphic analysis of Tell deposits.

Eligibility:
- neuroscience, computer science, psychology, math, or a related field.
- Experience in computer programming, or other quantitative experience, is highly preferred.
- Experience in visual psychophysics, fMRI, cognitive research, eye-tracking, and/or data analysis is a plus.
- As a candidate for the research assistant position, you should have a BA/BS degree, preferably in neuroscience, psychology, or biomedical engineering.
- Experience in computer programming is a plus.
- General knowledge in the areas of visual perception, cognition or neuroscience is recommended for this position.
Visual Computation group at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour has funding available for a PhD student and a research assistant (part-time) to work on studies of visual perception. The Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour consists of the Centre for Cognition, the Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging and the Centre for Neuroscience. The mission of the Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging is to conduct cutting-edge fundamental research in cognitive neuroscience. Much of the rapid progress in this field is being driven by the development of complex neuroimaging techniques for measuring activity in the human working brain – an area in which the Centre plays a leading role.

-We are looking for enthusiastic scientists with a background in biochemistry or related fields that combine an interest in the molecular origin of biomolecular recognition phenomena with a strong desire to apply and test this knowledge through the engineering of protein-based tools for molecular imaging and diagnostics.
-Ideal candidates would have experience in protein engineering (yeast display or other directed evolution approaches), biophysical chemistry, and/or cellular imaging.
-You should be fluent in English and you should enjoy working in a multinational and multidisciplinary group of scientists.
As part of a new research program funded by an ERC starting grant we have openings at post-doc level on the following topics: 1. Rational engineering of multi-domain protein switches as FRET sensors and reporter enzymes 2. Development of protein switches using directed evolution 3. Development of multivalent protein-DNA architectures for targeting biomolecular structures at the 10-100 nm scale
