We use and develop an exciting set of technologies involving object-oriented, domain-specific and aspect-oriented programming languages, language support through runtime mechanisms such as virtual machines, programmer support in Integrated Development Environments, and static and dynamic program analysis. Darmstadt has a unique concentration of IT security expertise that is provided via CASED (Advanced Security Research Darmstadt ) and the Fraunhofer SIT, as well as the BMBF “Spitzencluster” (the Initiative for Excellence started by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and the European Institute of Technology (EIT), with well over 200 scientists in the area of IT security.
CASED offers an attractive, international environment with students and scientists from all over the world. PostDocs will become members of the CASED PostDoc Program, which offer similar support targeted towards developing a strong professional career path.
Successful PostDocs are regularly given the opportunity to found their own Junior Research Groups in CASED.
Darmstadt is an attractive city at the heart of the Rhein-Main Area right in the center of Germany. We are only a 20-minutes ride away from Frankfurt, and from Frankfurt Airport in particular, which will bring you to many destinations worldwide in a single hop. Three PhD positions are open in the Decision and Awareness group (Dr. Igor Kagan) affiliated with the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory (CNL, Prof. Stefan Treue) at the German Primate Center – DPZ, in collaboration with the Dept. Cognitive Neurology (Prof. Melanie Wilke), Medical School, Goettingen University.
Our research focuses on neural mechanisms of active perception and decision making in human and non-human primates. We employ a combination of experimental techniques including multichannel electrophysiological recordings, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), reversible inactivation and stimulation of specific brain areas. Candidates can select between three projects:
1) The first project will investigate neuronal interactions between the two brain hemispheres during free and reward based decisions.
2) The second project will elucidate the contribution of the thalamic pulvinar to visuomotor coordination.
3) The third project will study the role of pulvinar in cortico-cortical communication during goal-directed behavior.
All projects employ a macaque monkey model of brain functions, but comparative experiments in human subjects will also be possible.
We are looking for very motivated candidates with a strong interest in brain and behavioral sciences and a university degree in neurobiology/neuroscience, engineering, physics or computer sciences. Good programming and analytical skills are necessary, experimental skills will be required but can be acquired in the course of the study. Prior experience with fMRI, neurophysiological or behavioral methods will be highly valued.

Fellowship for Postdoctoral Applicants at The Max Planck Institute in Göttingen in Urban Geography
The Max Planck Institute in Göttingen, Germany, seeks to appoint three post-doctoral research fellows in Urban Geography, each for three years. The geographers will be employed to conduct research respectively in the following locations: New York (likely Astoria in Queens), Johannesburg (likely Hillbrow) and Singapore (likely Jurong West).
Post-docs will undertake two months of project training in Germany before residing in the respective project city for the duration of the project, will undertake site visits to all Globaldivercities project sites, and will participate in a final international conference in Germany. Prof. Vertovec will manage the project through site visits, team meetings in various locations and video-conferences. The entire team will have input towards film-making, and all project members will be encouraged and supported to develop their own publications as well as to contribute to collective publications.
Requirements
Applicants should hold a PhD in Geography and have a track record of research (and ideally publication) regarding urban contexts. In addition to English, language competence in a relevant language (i.e., likely to be spoken among some immigrants in the given location) will be an advantage, as will knowledge and experience of one of the project cities.

Annual salary range €37,122-€41,175 (US$49,950-US$55,404.
