2011 Doctorate Studentship in the field of Environmental Chemistry at Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology in Switzerland
Study Subject(s): Environmental Chemistry
Course Level: PhD
Scholarship Provider: Eawag Aquatic Research Institute
Scholarship can be taken at: Switzerland
Eligibility: The ideal candidate holds a master or diploma in chemistry, geo-ecology or environmental sciences. Please send your application through this website, including a CV and copies of your master degree and grade transcript.
The aim of this PhD research project is to systematically assess possible reaction pathways and to develop a web-based model for the prediction of transformation products that can form from micropollutants during ozonation of drinking water or wastewater. The UM-PPS model which is currently applied in the prediction of biotransformation products of micropollutants will be used as a basis to set-up a chemical model. Known reaction mechanisms will be compiled, and then coupled with kinetic parameters. To assess unknown reaction mechanisms, laboratory-based experiments will be carried out, possibly in combination with quantum mechanical calculations. The web-based model will be developed for use in science and water treatment practice to predict transformation products of emerging organic micropollutants during oxidative water treatment.
