The competition is open to Cornell advanced graduate students in the social sciences, history and philosophy who plan to spend an academic year in Europe, preferably but not necessarily in Italy. Pre-doctoral candidates must have a dissertation project approved by their special committee.
Every other year, the San Giacomo Charitable Foundation awards a fellowship to a Cornell student. Named in honor of Cornell Professor Emeritus Mario Einaudi, who died in May 1994, the fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis to a candidate whose research reflects a commitment to Mario Einaudi’s goal of interpreting the United States to Europe and Europe to the United States.
