Protecting young people from harm and injury:Investigating the utility of a risk and protective

Scholarship Description

The Australian Research Council recently announced funding for a 3-year program of research to systematically evaluate an injury risk-taking school intervention which achieved significant reductions in injuries in its pilot trial. Designed for 13-14 year olds it involves a major change in approach by targeting the bundle of risks involved in transport, interpersonal violence and alcohol use. It tests and promotes the culturally relevant protective message that “good mates look after mates” through a curriculum integrated course involving training in protection, first aid skills and developing the school connectedness environment for at risk young people.
