Graduate Assistantship Hawaiian Land Snail Biodiversity at University of Hawaii, USA
We have National Science Foundation funding to support a graduate student at the PhD level to work on the systematics, evolution and conservation of Hawaiian land snails in the laboratory of Dr. Robert H. Cowie and Dr. Kenneth A. Hayes , in collaboration with Dr. Brenden S. Holland , Dr. Norine W. Yeung and a team of national and international land snail experts. The student should have a strong interest in systematics, taxonomy and conservation with a solid background in evolutionary biology.

Eligibility:
Required qualifications: A MS degree or equivalent in biology, zoology, genetics, ecology, or related field. Proficiency with current Windows based applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop). Applicants should be capable of physically demanding field work (hiking, camping, surveys) in rugged conditions often involving inclement weather in high elevations. He/she should be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and capable of independent work. Proficiency in English and good communication skills are essential.
Desirable qualifications: Previous experience in systematics and taxonomy, molecular and/or anatomical. Research experience in malacology, invertebrate zoology and/or phylogenetics, and field based survey work. Familiarity with basic statistical, phylogenetic, systematics, and programming applications.
