Eligibility:
Females from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. b) Are below 25 years at the time of admission c) Have been admitted to Makerere University on the basis of ‘A’ level results on the Private Sponsorship Scheme. d) Were not admitted on Uganda Government sponsorship to any Public University. e) Do not hold any other scholarships e.g. District Scholarship, KULIKA, etc f) Priority is given to students who attended their ‘A’ level from a school in a marginalized region.
The Makerere University Female Scholarship Foundation (FSF) was launched in 2010 as a continuation of the Makerere University Female Scholarship Initiative (FSI). With $ 4m support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, FSI supported 691 girls from disadvantaged background to access higher education. In November 2010, Makerere University made an appeal to the Government of Uganda to avail Shs 1.5 billion from the Peace, Recovery and Development Plan (PRDP) for 150 scholarships for girls from Greater Northern Uganda to access higher education at the University. Letters were written to 38 districts requesting them to make contributions to FSF. In response to this appeal, the districts of Maracha, Nebbi, Nakapiripirit, Zombo and Napak offered scholarships as stated in the table below.
