Eligibility:
1. A BSc degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry.
2. Have a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
3. Relevant experience and expertise in organic synthetic chemistry.
4. Experience in working with highly functionalized and charged small organic molecules, in particular phosphorus-containing
molecules.
5. Experience of organic synthesis in ionic liquids or non-conventional solvents.
6. Evidence of teaching activities and an ability to explain basic concepts of synthetic, medicinal and analytical chemistry.
7. Robust understanding of the practical application of organic chemistry principles (eg experimental design, purification procedures
etc).
8. Robust analytical skills commensurate with synthetic expertise.
9. Evidence of organizational skills with regards to coordination of group activities.
10. Excellent communication skills.

The work encompasses the development of synthetic methods to access functionalisable bisphosphonates, based on ionic liquid, ball milling and phosphorus expertise established at QUB. In addition to contributing to the group’s research effort, the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the day to day running of the King’s Medicinal Chemistry laboratory and closely interact with our industrial collaborators in Warner Chilcott. A teaching contribution in term of laboratory demonstrations and coordination will also be expected (Average= 5hrs/week).
