A PhD Scholarship in Marine Population Dynamics and Management is available at the National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua) with starting date October 2011. The scholarship is mainly financed by the Strategic Research Council Project MAFIA. The project will primarily be carried out in the Section for Management Systems in Charlottenlund, Denmark.The aim of the project is to investigate the feeding biology, growth dynamics and bio-energetics of whiting (Merlangius merlangus) in the Western Baltic Sea, and to compare these population dynamic parameters with those of its conspecific in the North Sea. The impact of influencing factors on the above parameters, such as seasonal and geographical variation in e.g. hydrographical conditions (temperature, salinity, oxygen), as well as sex, maturity, age and condition specific variability will be evaluated in the comparative study between Baltic and North Sea whiting.
