-The applicant must have a M.Sc. degree in geology or another relevant degree.
-We are seeking a creative and innovative student with a strong background in geology and a dedicated interest in chalk sedimentology, cyclostratigraphy and/or nannofossil palaeontology.
-The applicant should be familiar with the basic analytical techniques for isotope geochemical analysis of sediments. We expect that the candidate will publish in international peer reviewed journals, write a PhD thesis within the project duration of three years and assist in teaching within the Department.
The aim of the position is to conduct a detailed cyclostratigraphic study of the lower Chalk Group (Upper Cretaceous) of western Denmark based on a drill core from northern Jylland. The core will span the entire Upper Cretaceous and is expected to be drilled during late 2011. The place of employment and work will be the Department of Geography and Geology, at Copenhagen University, housed in Geocenter Denmark, Øster Voldgade 10, 1350 Copenhagen, Denmark. Geocenter Denmark is a research and education center comprising the Department of Geography and Geology and the Natural History Museum of Denmark, both at theUniversity of Copenhagen, the Department of Geology at Aarhus University, and the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland.
